Lil' Bruins 2008

The Westside Lil’ Bruins are truly the best t-ball team in Whitfield County.  This year has been full of great accomplishments for these 5 and 6 year olds.  They were the Eastside Early Bird Champions and this past weekend they were the runner’s up in the 2^nd annual T-Ball Madness tournament held at Eastbrook Park.  They were beat by a Murray County team, which continues to make them the BEST T-BALL TEAM IN WHITFIELD COUNTY.  Our 5 and 6 year olds played their hearts out in the T-Ball madness tournament this past weekend.  We won 2 games on Thursday night.  Friday nights first game was a nail biter and an exhausting time for both the players and their fans.  The game started at 6:30 pm and ended at 8:45 pm, these kids played tough and lost by one run in TRIPLE OVERTIME 29 to 28.  Our second game that night was delayed by 1 hour due to the first game being played soooo long.  The Lil’ Bruins were given 10 minutes to get a drink and use the restroom before play started again.  We won the second game even though our kids were beyond exhaustion.  We knew Saturday would be difficult due to now being in the losers bracket.  Our first game on Saturday was played at 1pm in 94 degree weather with the sun beating down on these young players.  Again to our amazement the Westside Lil’ Bruins played with everything they had.  They won the first game 28 to 22 in TRIPLE OVERTIME AGAIN!!!!  They won the second game and moved on to the Championship game.  Unfortunately they lost and were crowned runner’s up after 4 hours of playing baseball in the hot sun.  We were defeated by a team in Murray County, therefore in our eyes, we are still the #1 t-ball team in Whitfield County.

 As the Coach of the Westside Lil’ Bruins t-ball team, I would like to express my gratitude to all my players, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and all of our fans.  If ever I needed a volunteer or something for the game or practice, all I had to do was ask and it was done.  A special thank you to Gene’s Racing Parts for the kind donations the past two years.  Our uniforms looked great.  Thank You to my assistant coaches:  Matthew Ensley, Chris West, Brent Chadwick, Chris Kierce, and Tommy Neil.  A special thank you to my score keeper during tournaments:  Mandy Ensley.  And a heartfelt thank you to all my players and their parents for making coaching so easy.  I have truly enjoyed coaching these young kids and will miss several of them that will not be moving on with me next year.  The girls will be an asset to the teams they will play on in the future and so will the younger ones that will stay in t-ball again next year.  Continue to play hard and have fun.  For the players moving to 7 year old baseball with me next year, be prepared to practice and play harder than ever.  You all proved this weekend that you can.
