Online Petition

BEFORE COMPLETING THIS PETITION READ BELOW HOW COUNTY COMMISSIONERS HAVE BLOCKED RECEIPT OF THIS EMAIL

The form below is an online petition, which will automatically email your information to Whitfield County Officials.  It provides the same result as a manually signed and hand-carried petition, but with a lot less manpower and much greater impact.  Our goal is to demonstrate to Whitfield County Officials that the Westside Community is united in our effort in seeking equal opportunities for our Youth, as compared to other Whitfield County Communities.

This form provides a dual-effect.  County officials will receive your daily emails (from this form) and your results will be saved to a printed petition with your comments, which will be hand-delivered to Whitfield County Commissioners.

Please take the time to complete this form for EACH child and EACH parent involved in Westside Athletics. Parents of children who will be participating (infants, etc), or any interested Westside or Whitfield County resident also should complete this form.  A two-parent family with 2 children should complete this form 4 times (once for each child-mother/father).  Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, etc,  who attend practice/games, also are encouraged to complete this petition.

Don't stop there!  Contact as many people as you can think of and give them the wsyaa.com web address and urge them to complete this online petition.  The more response to this grassroots effort, the more recognition this effort will receive from elected officials.

Whitfield County Commissioner Petition

The Form below should be filled completely.  Once the information is completed press the "Email County Commissioner" button and your response will automatically be emailed to Whitfield County Commissioners.  Remember to notify as many Whitfield residents as possible and encourage them to complete this online form.

During Spring Sport Registration this week at Westside Elementary, the registration volunteers had the pleasure of assisting a young mother and father and their five children to register for Spring athletics.  The children ranged in ages from 5 to 14 years old. As we worked to help them decide which sport and age group each child should compete, we realized that these two parents were faced with a very common dilemma.  All five children must play on five different teams (sports) because of their age and sex distribution.  This means 5 different trips to five different practice facilities scattered throughout the county.  One alternative was to place a 5 year old on an 8 year old team, so two of the brothers could play together, and reduce the families crisis.

With non-existent Westside fields, it will be impossible for these young parents to shuttle their children to the various fields that the Westside community must borrow from other Associations in order to fulfill our space needs.  While fuel costs alone are impractical, these parents must choose between their children and prioritize which child has a greater need for active parental involvement in their activities.  In addition, even with prioritizing between children, dividing a family in several different directions runs contrary to Whitfield County Youth Athletic goals.

Youth Athletics are a family building activity, and should not be structured to splinter families.  While it is easy to focus attention on crumbling facilities, wetlands as ball fields, unsafe facilities, and the lack of restroom facilities, it is far more unsettling to focus on how these deficiencies directly affect families.  Whitfield County officials should begin to look beyond brick and mortar costs of facilities and evaluate how lack of action affects families and children.

Please include your own comments along with your petition.

Remember, your comments are critical to tell the commissioners what you think!
