Youth Programs

This site is still under development and fueled entirely by volunteers. You can help by volunteering to help in our efforts.    Winter Sports will begin sign-ups Oct 29-30 and November 1 at Westside Elementary Gym from 6:00-7:30.

To create a team calendar for your team visit

http://www.wsyaa.com/calendar%202007.doc for 2007 calendar and http://www.wsyaa.com/calendar%202008.doc  for a 2008 calendar

We will begin adding pages to our Winter Sports Programs following sign-up.  Each Team will be provided with their own section.  If you are a Parent on one of these teams, please volunteer to develop information for your team's area.  This provides a wonderful opportunity for out-of-town grandparents/relatives to follow your team's progress.

Parents may upload action pictures of their child, player stats, game summaries; all can be placed in team sections, provided a volunteer is willing to assemble the information.  For information on the types of information that can be uploaded to your teams area visit http://westsidecubs.net and follow navigation to the 2006 Cubs area.  Individual pictures and a team picture may be uploaded, as well.

Youth Sports is about fun!  Building a web section for your team can provide as much enjoyment for parents, as the kids playing the game. .....and the kids think its pretty cool that their accomplishments are on the web for all to see! Out-of-town Grandparents think it's pretty cool too!  Once Team pages are uploaded and game summaries begin to be added, many Grandparents may call you to find out when their page will be updated.

Hints for Building Team Pages

Each team may develop their own area as they choose.  In developing information for your team's area, information should be published in Microsoft Word Format, and Images should be saved in .gif, .jpg, or .png format.  You may email this information to teaminfo@wsyaa.com . The subject of the email should include the name of the team.

Always recognize every players accomplishments in every game summary.  Players with less skill can become more motivated, if their contribution to the team is recognized. The more excited they become about baseball, the more time they spend playing baseball after practice.

Save Team practice and game schedule calendars in an image format (see above). These can be a simply table created in Microsoft Word. (Word has Calendar Templates).  Include times and field names. Remember, your team area will become a central source for information for your team.

Game summaries all will be listed on one web page.  While the Westside Cubs have our own separate page for each game, the Cubs Website is our own website where space is not limited.  Each new game summary will be added to the bottom of the page.  Please help by titling each summary in a consistent manner. This helps in keeping each update consistent.  You may enter all summaries on the same file (page) and add each new summary on the same word file at the bottom. You can then send the same file each week with the updates added at the bottom. This will help you keep the format consistent.

Westside Angels vs. Tunnel Hill Titans - Westside 8 - Tunnel Hill 7

Game summary follows beneath the title

If action pictures are taken for each game, please send those pictures in the email update for that game.  Images should be included with the game summary email as an attachment.  Subject of the email should describe the summary (WS Cubs vs Pleasant Grove Bruins - game Summary).

On your main team page, be sure you describe your team.  We are a 9 year old girls softball....

Have several parents work together in writing content and submit this content weekly.  Remember, the WSYAA website is fully staffed by one volunteer on a part-time basis.

For Team rosters and photos of each player, please build these in table format.  A two-column table with photos in one column and player descriptions works well, is consistent, and easy to transfer into HTML web format.  These are easily forwarded as an email attchment in Microsoft Word format.

Finally, if your child does not receive enough recognition in these pages-contribute more.  Help in writing the section and contribute action images.

Having a team section can be a lot of fun and you'll be surprised how it will bring a team and parents together.
